May 13-14 Opening Weekend

We’re back! The Queen is on Progress and has come to Staffordshire. The whole village is abuzz with preparations: merchants have arrived to set up their wares, the kitchens are busy preparing turkey legs and other savory fare, and traveling players have arrived, ready to amuse Her Majesty (and you).

May 20-21 Celtic Heritage

Bring out your kilts and celebrate our Celtic History!

May 27-28 Military History

This weekend only, to honor their service, we admit active, reserve and retired military personnel at no charge. (Military ID required, does not include dependents.)

June 3-4 Pirate Invasion

The shire is awash in pirates and privateers!

June 10-11 Closing Weekend

This is your last chance to enjoy the Faire until next year!

  1. Hi there, I can see the themes listed for the next three weekend but can’t find any details regarding what they will entail. I have three kiddos, Mom, and Aunt and we are torn between which weekend to come visit. If there were more details we could make a more informed decision. What will the Military weekend include? The Pirate weekend seems self explanatory, but then what is done on the closing weekend. Would REALLY like more details. We can’t come more than one weekend! Thanks so much!!

  2. We were thinking of coming to the Faire this weekend (May 21) with two children, ages 5 and 8. We’d like to know the schedule for Sunday if it is available, so we can plan the day. Thanks.

    1. Hi John,
The schedule will be posted shortly but know that the day is front end loaded. The best bet is to be there as close to opening (10am) as possible to get the most out of the experience before your kiddos reach their limit. The knighting ceremony for children is at 2PM in the Nobles Glade. Be there at 1:30 for instruction. Jousts are at Noon and 3:30

  3. Hi – is there an entertainment schedule for the season posted somewhere. working to determine when will be best for us to visit.

      1. Interesting, when I click on this the schedule or search for entertainment all I find is either the theme weekends for 2017 OR the 2016 entertainment schedules and advice to check back later for 2017.

      2. There is not a schedule up at this point. Odd, since that would be beneficial to bring people in.

      3. As soon as the schedule’s finalized, we’ll post it. Probably within the next 24 hours. We’re an all volunteer organization, so we get things done when we can. We’re always looking for more help, so feel free to shoot us an e-mail and you can join the team for next season. 😉

    1. what is wheelchair access like? Manual, with a mom pushing an adult son. Are there paths that work for this sort of access?

      1. We do have people who traverse the site in manual wheelchairs. There’s packed gravel in the woods, packed dirt around the rest of the site. If it’s been a long day and the trek back to the front gate seems too hard, stop by the Barleycorn Tavern or First Aid and we’re happy to help with transport. We also have handicap parking by the front gate and each portapotty station has a handicap unit.

  4. Do you allow SDiTs (Service Dogs in Training)? I did see the notice at the bottom of the schedule and ticket information page, but some places will allow SDiTs where they won’t allow regular pets.

    1. Phillip, trained service dogs only, please. On the one hand, what you’re doing — training service dogs — is a wonderful thing! But on the other, we have dogs performing in two different locations, horses in two different locations as well as alpacas. We’ve already had a few incidents with service dogs causing a disruption with an act, so we really want to limit it to dogs that must be there for their owner’s safety.

  5. I never been to one and always wanted to go. I had no idea there was one here. I heard of the ones in Maryland. Now, I live near Lake Anna and saw the banner at the winery. I am so excited this is a dream for me. I wanted a Renaissance wedding but that never happened 😦 ended up in some guys living room for it. Oh well, this is my shot.

Do you sale and corsets and help getting fit for one? I wish I could work for one. Maybe next year now that I know 😉

  7. Will the weekend of May 27-28 be a special weekend, like Military Appreciation as it is Memorial Day weekend?

      1. My wife was army, but she has a dependent id. What does she need to confirm her service status?

      2. Any piece of paperwork (or snap a picture on the phone) with her name on it that would serve as proof she served. (For the record, we’recommend not belittling the contributions and sacrifices that spouses and dependents make. We just had to choone between keeping it to only active and dependents or extending to retired and reservists. We chose to extend a little bit of benefit to as many families as possible.)

    1. I’m afraid not. We’ll be announcing our theme weekends soon. But they tend to fall into the Celtic, Pirate and Military History theme. We try to stick close to our Elizabethan time period.

  8. Meredith, please contact me at tommyhurdy8@gmail.com. I’ve received no reply from the musicians Web site about playing at VARF this year. I really want to be there with an exciting presentation of music for the Faire. Thanks, Tommy
